Summary of Our Current Issue:

The Summer issue of The Oakleaf is now online! We open with Passing the Torch: A New Chapter for the Navy Supply Corps, as RADM Ken Epps turns over leadership of NAVSUP and the Supply Corps to RADM Kristin Acquavella, the 51st Chief of Supply Corps. Their reflections on sustainment, readiness, people and the future of Navy logistics set the tone for this issue.

Summer also means Scholarships. The Foundation awarded 65 scholarships totaling $306,000 for the 2026–2027 school year, the highest dollar amount awarded in program history. Meet scholarship recipient Haley Johnsen on page 31, then see the full list of recipients, and the donors that make these awards possible.

On page 12, we celebrate VADM Dion D. English as he concludes nearly four decades in uniform. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine called him “a Titan of logistics, but more important, a Titan of a human”, while VADM English’s own remarks centered on gratitude, relationships and his enduring charge to future leaders: “Build people.”

We also honor RADM Daniel W. “Dan” McKinnon Jr., the 36th Chief of Supply Corps, longtime Foundation supporter, historian, mentor and one of The Oakleaf’s great storytellers. His legacy of preserving Supply Corps history and strengthening the Community is remembered on page 6.

Congratulations as well to our 2025 Chapters-of-the-Year: Hampton Roads, Jacksonville and Japan, and to LT Travon Whitehurst of the Japan Chapter, our Volunteer-of-the-Year. We also recognize Volunteer Achievement Award recipients LCDR Mike Appleby, LT Judner Attys and LT Steven Okumura, along with our Chapter Excellence Award winners.

Throughout the issue, you’ll also find Chapter news, heritage stories, Distinguished Alumni Bill Fry and David Veal, an update on the Foundation-sponsored San Diego Freedom Park exhibit, and continued efforts to preserve Supply Corps history through the Oral History Program.

Most of all, this issue reflects what our Foundation does best: supporting our people, preserving our heritage and strengthening the Supply Corps Community.
