Find Your Volunteer Niche: Become Part of Our Heritage

Are you interested in becoming more involved with the Foundation?  We are excited to introduce a unique opportunity for our most engaged and active chapter members.  The Foundation recently established a permanent Volunteer Committee to fill the wide range of service opportunities available on Foundation committees and programs.

The Volunteer Committee is open to members of the Foundation (active, reserve, retired and former Supply Corps officers), their spouses and members of the enlisted Supply ratings (those eligible for Foundation scholarships).

Much of the work and communication will be handled virtually, but there may be opportunities for volunteers to attend Foundation board meetings as non-voting members and as needs require.  This opportunity will also give volunteers a chance to work closely with board members, developing relationships and mentoring possibilities.  To volunteer, email foundation@usnscf.com.

Scholarship Committee – There are two opportunities to help and support the Foundation’s scholarship program.

1. Serve on the scholarship selection board. Representatives are needed every year from each component of the Supply Corps community (active, reserve, enlisted and spouse) to select the best candidates for Foundation scholarships.
2. Mentor our scholarship selectees. Each year mentors are desired to sponsor and support the new scholarship selectees.

Chapter Relations – The Foundation is working to increase involvement by the more than 30 chapters in Foundation activities and encouraging the formation of new chapters worldwide.

Heritage Committee – This committee serves to develop as well as promote the history, traditions, and customs of the Supply Corps. The Foundation is visibly communicating our heritage through expanding the Supply Corps participation on Navy memorial ships and traveling displays. In addition, the Foundation is continuing support for the former Supply Corps Museum and development of a Supply Corps Heritage Center. Keeping the traditions of the Supply Corps alive also means hosting more opportunities for current and former Supply Corps officers for gatherings and trips. The Foundation is planning a robust schedule of national and regional reunions including a Southern France River Cruise in 2014.

Recognition Committee –  This committee is working to sustain the Distinguished Alumni program and develop and implement additional chapter and Foundation recognition programs.

Communications Committee – Our goal is to reach out to all active, reserve, retired and former Supply Corps officers to expand the esprit de corps of our organization, to increase knowledge of our activities and to provide opportunities for members to get involved, and to support the Foundation. The Committee will use the internet and social media tools, along with all traditional communications media (newsletters, brochures, displays, etc), to this end. Two of the committee’s primary responsibilities are the production of The Oakleaf, the Foundation’s newsletter (published three times a year and quarterly starting in 2014) and maintenance and enhancement of the Foundations’ website, www.usnscf.com, which also serves to house the database of all members.
